Program

 

Day 1 - Thurs,

Pick up at Arrivals gate in Rome Fiumicino Airport at an hour to be established once everyone’s flight schedules are in. We recommend you book a flight that lands in the early afternoon (2pm – 4pm). If you remain within our suggested time slot you can avoid having to wait at the airport for a long time if you arrive too early (or having to reach the hotel by your own means if you arrive too late). Transfer to hotel in Tivoli, check into rooms and freshen up.

Cross through the lovely historical town center of Tivoli to reach Villa d’Este. Visit the fabulous gardens of this regal palace famous for its magnificent fountains. Dinner in local trattoria.

Day 2 - Fri,

After breakfast drive to Cisterna di Latina (1 hour away) for a guided tour of the gardens of Ninfa, a supremely romantic garden where roses scramble over the ruins of a Medieval town set on the banks of a crystalline river. Return to Tivoli for lunch. In the afternoon visit the huge archaelogical site of Hadrian’s Villa. Dinner in a local trattoria.

Day 3 - Sat,

After breakfast transfer to villa near Pienza. En route visit Villa Lante to see one of Italy’s most beautiful Renaissance gardens. Get a bite to eat in the tiny, but very pretty town of Bagnaia before reaching our next stop. Discover the fantastic sculptures concealed within the forest of the whimsical and mysterious Bomarzo park. Arrive in villa in the late afternoon, a beautifully-restructured, centuries-old stone farm house with a pool surrounded by a breathtaking landscape that's been classified as an Unesco world heritage site. Dinner in villa.


Day 4 - Sun,

After breakfast enjoy first hands-on cooking class preparing a full-course meal to be had for lunch. In the afternoon visit Bagno Vignoni, a Medieval spa where the main square is a huge pool of steaming water and Pienza, an idyllic Tuscan town that began life as a model Renaissance city. Return to villa for dinner.


Day 5 - Mon,

After breakfast visit the wine cellars of the small, family-run winery of Villa Sant'Anna, makers of Nobile di Montepulciano, one of the world's finest wines. Taste some of their best bottles as you snack on cold cuts and cheese. Arrive at the town of Montepulciano where you can get a bite to eat before exploring this Medieval and Renaissance hill-top town. Montepulciano has a lovely main square and a fine 16th century church built in golden travertine at the end of a long avenue of cypresses. In town you can wander into some of the centuries-old, cathedral-like wine cellars that were used as bunkers during WWII. Return to villa for dinner.


Day 6 - Tues,

After breakfast Claudio and Marco will lead a walk through Siena, one of Italy's loveliest Medieval cities full of spectacular art treasures. The splendid Romanesque-Gothic cathedral and the magnificent shell-shaped main square where every year the Palio horse race takes place. Free time for lunch and in the early afternoon to go either shopping or to catch a museum. Return to villa around 4 pm. Dinner at villa.

 

Day 7 - Wed,

After breakfast take part in another fun cooking class preparing a full-course meal to be had for lunch. In the afternoon visit the beautiful gardens of La Foce, considered to be the great, British garden designer and architect Cecil Pinsent's masterpiece. Return to villa for dinner.

Day 8 - Thurs,

After breakfast visit a local cheesemaker and have a pecorino cheese tasting on the farm. The Pecorino cheese from Pienza is considered one of the best in the country. Return to villa for a light lunch. In the afternoon visit the beautiful abbey of Sant'Antimo immersed in a picture-perfect countryside. Have a stroll in the quaint Medieval town of Montalcino and visit the wine cellars of a Brunello winery to taste what is perhaps Italy's most-prized wines. Return to villa for dinner.

Day 9 - Fri,

After breakfast visit the Carla Fineschi rose garden, the biggest private collection of roses in the world, delightfully set within an olive grove in the countryside. Reach Arezzo for lunchtime. Get a bite to eat before visiting this vibrant town, a city rich in art and architecture. Return to villa for farewell dinner.

Day 10 - Sat,

After early breakfast transfer to Fiumicino airport in Rome. As there will be only one transfer to the airport please make sure your flight departs after 10 am, if you book a flight that departs much earlier than the suggested time you'll risk having to get to the airport by your own means. The exact time of transfer to the airport will be communicated once we’ve received everyone's flight information.
