Program
Day 1 - Sept 14, Sun
Arrival at Florence International Airport Peretola and transfer to Casa Piero in Viareggio. There will be a limited amount of transfers offered which will be established once everyone’s flight schedules are in. It is recommended you book a flight that lands after 11am and before 4pm. If you remain within our suggested time slot you can avoid having to wait at the airport for a long time if you should arrive too early or having to reach Casa Piero by your own means if you arrive too late. The venue in Viareggio is a newly renovated, early twentieth-century town house with five en suites that's just a five-minute walk from the beach and right around the corner from the market and the city's best cafés and restaurants. Go on an orientation walk and enjoy a gelato at one of the many excellent gelaterie in town. Welcome aperitifs and dinner.
Day 2 – Sept 15, Mon
After breakfast spend a lazy day at the beach at one of the private bathing establishments on the coast with a gazebo and private changing room of your own. Sunbathe, stroll along the shore and enjoy a refreshing swim in the sea. Lunch oyo. In the afternoon take part in a fun, hands-on cooking class preparing a full-course meal to be had for dinner.
Day 3 – Sept 16, Tues
After breakfast drive to La Spezia to catch a ferry to visit what is arguably the prettiest of all the coastal towns in Liguria. A colorful huddle of old fishermen's homes greet those who visit the picturesque, seaside town of Portovenere. Leisurely strolls through winding, narrow streets will disclose spectacular seascapes of emerald waters lapping along the town's rocky shoreline (approximately a one-mile, partly uphill walk). Lunch oyo. Enjoy a wine tasting en route back to Viareggio. Dinner in Casa Piero.
Day 4 – Sept 17, Wed
After breakfast visit Forte dei Marmi, a town that could be considered Tuscany's Bel Air. For those who like shopping, you're in luck, as Wednesday is also market day in this chi-chi resort town. Lunch oyo. Free time in the afternoon to explore Viareggio, walk the esplanade to admire the architecture, people watch at one of the many outdoor cafés, and/or go window shopping. If it’s a warm sunny day you can go for a swim in the sea. Walk down the pier for a great view of the sea and majestic mountain stretch rising in the background. Rent bikes and ride through Viareggio’s shady parks or on one of the town’s many bike trails. These are just some of the many activities you can enjoy in this seaside resort. Dinner in Casa Piero.
Day 5 – Sept 18, Thurs
After breakfast, visit the Cinqueterre, a UNESCO World Heritage site, five ingeniously constructed fishing villages set amid a dramatic coastal scenery. Free time to get a bite to eat. Take a ferry down the coast to admire the scenery from out at sea, hopping on and off to visit the towns. Dinner in the Villa.
Day 6 – Sept 19, Fri
After breakfast, drive through the idillic Tuscan countryside to San Gimignano, the 14 towers of the walled town rise up like a medieval Manhattan. Here there is a palpable sense of history with its intact medieval streetscapes and enchanting rural setting. Have lunch oyo. Before returning to Viareggio enjoy a wine tasting at one of the many excellent wineries in the area. Dinner in Casa Piero.
Day 7 – Sept 20, Sat
After breakfast visit Pietrasanta, a charming little town that has attracted celebrated artists from around the world. Artists like Henry Moore, Joan Mirò, Botero and Niki de Saint Phalle have at some point been drawn to this tiny artists' mecca. Beautiful palazzi, churches and lively cafés overlook the vast, open, central square that is frequently the site of whimsical sculpture exhibits. Lunch oyo. Return to Casa Piero for cooking class followed by dinner.
Day 8 – Sept 21, Sun
After breakfast visit the endearing city of Lucca, hidden behind imposing Renaissance walls. Its cobbled streets, handsome piazzas and shady promenades make it a perfect destination and with a ratio of 1 shop per every 3 inhabitants it's a great place for shopping. Lunch oyo. An animated antique and vintage fair will be taking place on this day making our visit even more enjoyable. Dinner at Casa Piero.
Day 9 – Sept 22, Mon
After breakfast we are off to Pisa to see what is perhaps one of Italy’s most famous symbols: The Leaning Tower. Admire the other stunning buildings that make up this majestic piazza. Be surprised to discover how many other noteworthy sights there are to see in this charming and lively university town. Dinner back at villa.
Day 10 – Sept 23, Tues
After breakfast transfer to Florence, a city that needs no introductions. On reaching Florence stop at Piazzale Michelangelo from where you can get a spectacular panorama of the city. Check into hotel and get a bite to eat oyo, before going on a walk to discover this enchanting city. Visit the 13th-century Palazzo Vecchio, the fortress-like palace where the all-powerful Medici family lived and ruled. Admire unforgettable views and the impressive 53m-long, 22m-wide and 18m-high Salone del 500, a magnificent painted hall with a gold-leaf paneled ceiling. The palace also houses masterpieces by artists of the likes of Michelangelo and Donatello. Dinner in one of the city's many excellent restaurants.
Day 11 – Sept 24, Wed
After breakfast at hotel see one of the Renaissance's most iconic masterpieces, the David by Michelangelo. After witnessing the world's most famous statue have lunch in one of Florence's fine restaurants. Free time in the afternoon to explore the city further, get some shopping in or to see a museum that's on your bucket list. Dinner oyo.
Day 12 – Sept 25, Thurs
After breakfast departure from Florence International Airport Peretola. We recommend you book a flight that departs in the late morning before noon. We will offer only a limited amount of transfers to airport, therefore if you remain within our suggested time slot you can avoid having to wait at the airport for a long time if your flight departs very late, or having to reach airport by your own means, if your flight departs very early.
